The Enfield Weightlifting Club

The Enfield Weightlifting Club is a local gym for local people, run by the lads for the lads.

It was founded in 1950 by Jack Kirkland. Jack was a Sergeant in the Scots Guards and served our country for 12 years during World War II.  Back in those days there weren’t gyms like there are today.  Jack decided to set up his own gym appropriately called “Jacks Gym” and get local lads involved in fitness and physical culture.

He was still training into his 80’s and passed in 1997.

The road where Holtwhites Sports & Social Club is today, Kirkland Drive, was named after Jack.

Today the gym is run by a committee which organise functions and events as well as competitions. We are a non profit, private members club with a limit of 120 members.
